The journey and the route

The trip is about 45 kilometres and usually takes 50 to 75 minutes. The Bosphorus is crossed by the Bosphorus (15 Temmuz Şehitler) or Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge.

Bosphorus (15 Temmuz Şehitler) and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge tolls are included; privately operated motorways such as the Northern Marmara Motorway, and the Eurasia Tunnel, are not. Your driver picks the best route for the traffic.

Arriving in Taksim

Most hotels around Taksim Square can be reached by car to the door. İstiklal Avenue is pedestrianised; for hotels on the avenue or its side streets, your driver drops you at the nearest point a car can reach.

In the mornings, bridge traffic runs heavy from Asia to Europe. Allow a little more time for morning arrivals; the price does not change with the hour.

Near you in Taksim

  • Taksim Square

The square with the Republic Monument; most large hotels are around it and reached by car to the door.

  • Cihangir

South of Taksim, with quiet streets overlooking the Bosphorus and many boutique hotels and rental flats.

  • Pera and Tepebaşı

Running parallel to İstiklal Avenue, known for its historic hotels and views over the Golden Horn.

Other ways to get to Taksim

Airport buses run directly from Sabiha Gökçen to Taksim; you may have to walk on from the stop with your luggage. By rail it takes more than one change.

By taxi, the bridge crossing and traffic make the fare uncertain. With a private transfer you see the total, bridge toll included, when you book.

The trip back

Going back from Taksim to Sabiha Gökçen you cross the Bosphorus again. Leave at least four hours before an international departure; in the evenings bridge traffic builds from Europe to Asia.
