The journey and the route
The trip is about 40 kilometres and takes around 45 minutes outside rush hour; at peak times it can take more than an hour. The route stays on the European side and does not cross the Bosphorus.
Your driver picks the best route for the traffic. If privately operated motorways such as the Northern Marmara Motorway are used, those tolls are not included in the price.
Arriving in Taksim
Most hotels around Taksim Square can be reached by car to the door. İstiklal Avenue is pedestrianised; if your hotel is on the avenue or one of its side streets, your driver drops you at the nearest point a car can reach.
The same applies to the narrow, steep streets towards Galata, Cihangir and Karaköy. Giving your hotel’s name and full address when you book lets the driver plan the best drop-off point in advance.

İstiklal Avenue
The pedestrian avenue from Taksim Square to Tünel; most hotels are on it or a few minutes away in the side streets.
Galata Tower and Karaköy
A short walk, nostalgic tram or funicular ride down from Taksim, known for its cafés and views over the Golden Horn.
Harbiye and Maçka
North of Taksim, with congress centres and large hotels, popular for business travel; cars reach hotel doors.
Other ways to get to Taksim
Havaist buses run directly from the airport to Taksim, but you may have to walk from the stop with your luggage or take another taxi. Going by metro means at least one change.
A taxi is also possible, but the fare is set by the meter and the traffic during the trip. With a private transfer you see the price when you book and it is per vehicle: travelling as a family or a group, the share per person is often lower than expected.
The trip back
Going back from Taksim to Istanbul Airport, we suggest leaving at least four hours before an international departure and three hours before a domestic one. If you leave between 17:00 and 20:00, leave half an hour earlier.
