Sultanahmet is the heart of the historic peninsula, with hotels a short walk from Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar. Getting there from Istanbul Airport means crossing the city from one end to the other; with a private vehicle it is one trip at a price known in advance.

The journey and the route
The trip is about 50 kilometres and usually takes 50 to 70 minutes. It stays on the European side without crossing the Bosphorus, entering the historic peninsula across the Golden Horn.
Your driver picks the best route for the traffic. If privately operated motorways such as the Northern Marmara Motorway are used, those tolls are not included in the price.
Arriving in Sultanahmet
Some streets on the historic peninsula are pedestrianised and traffic around the squares is restricted. Your driver drops you at the nearest point a car can reach; most hotels are a few minutes’ walk from there.
Giving your hotel’s name and full address when you book helps the driver plan the approach and the drop-off point. Early mornings and evenings are quieter in the area.

Other ways to get to Sultanahmet
Havaist buses reach the historic peninsula, but you still have to make your way from the stop with your luggage. By rail it means more than one change and busy stations.
A taxi fare is set by the meter during the trip. With a private transfer you see the total per vehicle when you book, and a large family travels together in one vehicle.
The trip back
Going back from Sultanahmet to Istanbul Airport, leave at least four hours before an international departure. Getting out of the historic peninsula can be slow in the mornings and evenings; give your hotel pickup time when you book.
